Reading is like exercise for our brain. It can help in improving focus and memory. People often comment that “Scoring 9.0 on IELTS Reading is very hard for those, whose first language is not English. The main agenda of IELTS Reading is to test your ability to understand what you have read. 1. SKIM AND SCAN

Skimming is the process of looking only for the main ideas. Reading the whole passage is not required. What is required is, finding answers for the given questions, nothing more. Thus, skim over the text and then start looking for your relevant answers.

2. KEEP YOUR STOPWATCH TICKING

60 minutes is the maximum time given to read three texts and answer 40 questions. No additional time for filling your answer sheet will be given, sotime management is of utter importance.

3. BE YOUR OWN SPELLCHECKER

Check your spelling before writing your answer, as there is zero tolerance for spelling mistakes in IELTS.

4. LEARNING THE RULING OUT TECHNIQUE

If you’re sure that a particular is wrong, cross it out. This way there will be lesser confusion and more time will be saved.

5. COMPREHENDING CORRECTLY

Look thoroughly through the text. Scan for the minutest details and match it with the particular information required.

6. NO BLANK BOXES ACCEPTED

Answer all the questions, even if you’re not sure in your answer. You don't get negative marking for wrong answers, so try your luck and write the most

probable answer.

7. REMEMBER THE ORDER

In most of the cases the questions follow the order of the text. Thus, the answer to question 5 will come after the answer to question 4 and so on.

8. GRAMMAR HAS TO BE PERFECT

Even in the case of reading, the answers should meet the set criterions and should be absolutely grammatically correct.

9. UNDERLINE

When you skim over the text, underline the proper nouns, circle the numerical information and bracket the important statements by famous authors (if given). It will help you to save time when you will look for your required answers.

10. UNFAMILIAR VOCABULARY! DO NOT PANIC

Do not worry if the text seems foreign to you or you don’t know some words.Every answer can be found in the text, if you are unable to locate the same, thenit might be possible that it is under NOT GIVEN category.
